OXFORD – For well over twenty years, it has been an honor and tradition for the Fort Hill American Legion Post 376, to partner with the American Red Cross, to host blood drives.
Through collaboration and dedication, Post 376’s donations have been on the rise and recently the Red Cross officially recognized the Legion’s 2023 accomplishments.
With community service as one of its pillars, The American Legion Post 376 is heavily involved in blood donation efforts. Commander Darlene Ardron makes sure that every two months the Fort Hill Legion is reserved, cleaned, and ready for the Red Cross team.
Darlene works with Mary Hardendorf, Oxford Red Cross Drive Coordinator. Mary makes sure her efficient team of volunteers and skilled Red Cross employees are ready for blood donations, from registration to recovery at the canteen; this ensures it’s a smooth process.
On Saturday, July 13, Mary presented the Commander with a special “Certificate of Recognition” and a special pin, for an outstanding 174 units collected in 2023. This was an annual growth of 53 units.
The certificate states, “In recognition of your commitment and dedication to the American Red Cross Premier Blood Partner Program. Your support is critical to our lifesaving mission. Each year we deliver nearly 6.4 million blood products to hospital patients – and we could not do it without you.”
Right now, nationally, the summer heat wave has created a critical blood shortage, and your help is desperately needed.
There will be two more blood drives at Post 376 this year: 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. On September 7 and November 2,
Visit RedCross.org to make an appointment, learn about incentives, manage appointments, complete your RapidPass®, get notified when your blood is on its way to a patient, view results from your mini-physical, and more.
